A peek inside my Visual Journal Class

15

One of the four classes I am taking is called Visual Journal. This has been one of my favorite courses this semester - it has been a particularly valuable course for me as an architecture student. The class teaches the many different ways that a drawing can be represented whether it be through the use of different mediums or through different drawing techniques (ie. to name a few, we did drawings where we couldn't look down at our paper but rather had to focus on our hand-to-paper connection and draw the best we could; we did memory exercises where we went to a site and then later drew it the best we could from memory; exercises focusing on form vs. void; drawings that focused on light, shadow and darkness; and the list goes on). What I also felt was very valuable was how we spent only about half the time in a classroom and the other half was out exploring different sites in Copenhagen as well as drawing on site. There is a lot that can be said about how much more one remembers and feels connected to a particular space when one has drawn it.
