The Ultimate Vegan/Vegetarian Guide to Copenhagen

Joe & the Juice

  • Pretty much every corner you turn you will run into a Joe & the Juice...they are everywhere! They have really great juices and quite good sandwiches that you can customize to make vegan. They are served on a thin flat bread

Here I have complied many photos and written suggestions of cafes, restaurants, food stores and indoor markets that offer vegan and vegetarian food options. I have worked on this blog post for the whole semester gathering personal photos as well as many photos from friends in order to give future Copenhagen visitors as many suggestions as possible. I have been vegan for a little over a year and I was worried that being vegan while abroad would be difficult....but it is quite the contrary! I am beyond pleased with the quality and quantity of vegan options. I have never found myself in a situation where I was somewhere that had nothing I could eat. I should also mention that at any DIS event where students are served food, DIS accommodates students with any dietary restrictions they may have.

Hope Bar

  • Less than a 5 minute walk from DIS and has really great healthy vegan burgers as well as vegetarian options (and I believe one dish that has chicken). Their juices are delicious and my favorite foods are actually from their lunch menu that they continue serving until 10pm).

42raw

  • Really delicious raw vegan food. I was very impressed with their breakfast/brunch options and their acai bowls

Cafe N

  • Has a great brunch as well as good portion sizes; offers vegan, vegetarian, juices, smoothies and coffee

Simple Raw

  • Would recommend the veggie burger; overall a great range of raw vegan foods

Nicecream

  • All vegan and organic popsicles and ice cream sandwiches. Also serve acai and peanut butter bowls that are delicious! Located in Vesterbro.

Souls

  • One of my favorite vegan restaurants...would highly recommend their sandwiches! They also have smoothie bowls and nut-based yogurts and great juices.

Hafnia

  • Very delicious and beautifully presented vegan food! Would highly recommend the raw vegan blueberry "cheesecake."

Café Feel Good

  • Has a delicious exotic fruit plate that even includes dragon fruit! Has many vegetarian options as well, including their brunch.

Dāna Indian Street Food

  • Not too many options but they have great Naan that they can make vegan. They also have a vegan curry/dipping sauce and great homemade chai.

The Organic Boho

  • Really great falafel wraps and bowls!

California Kitchen

  • Has American as well as Asian Fusion vegan food...overall nice ambiance and really delicious food.

Kaf

  • The staff was very nice and overall had good vegan options...my favorite was the vegan oreo "cheesecake"

THAI Food locations I've been to with good vegan/vegetarian options:

  • Scurry Hub (inexpensive stir fries with noodles as well as curry options; also offers take out)

  • Wok'n'Roll (located very close to DIS and has a combination of Thai and Asian Fusion including wok)

  • The Noodle Box (quick and easy Thai and Vietnamese noodle dishes where you can build your own dish adding the noodles/ingredients/toppings/sauces you would like. I took mine to go.)

  • Thai Pan (very yummy pad thai and veg curry

INDIAN Food locations I've been to with good vegan/vegetarian options:

  • Al-Diwan (very delicious Indian food...many veg dishes and both Roti and Naan options for bread)

  • Cafe Munk (good dahl, good peanut chutney salad, they also have paneer that they can make vegan)

  • Mumbai (A do-it-yourself buffet style restaurant...a little more pricey than most places I've been but it was still worth it)

Good places for buying vegan/vegetarian groceries

  • Astrid och Aporna (vegan grocery store equipped with vegan staples like tofu, mock meat, etc. They also have a restaurant called "Astrid och Apornas Spiseri" that has great vegan burgers)

  • Superbrugsen (supermarket that has vegan cheese, sausages and ice cream and a good freezer section)

  • Irma (supermarket that has good hummus and various products that were hard to find elsewhere like vegan creme fraiche and cream. Also has a good freezer section for frozen veggies and pre-made items)

  • Thai Supermarket in Vesterbro (great for finding types of noodles and sauces I couldn't find in the main grocery stores)

  • The Vegan Shop

OTHER Food locations I've been to with good vegan/vegetarian options:

  • Atlas Bar (serves Mediterranean food that you can order from both a menu or eat buffet style. Has vegetarian items but also several good vegan items)

  • Den Økologiske Pølsemand (has traditional danish vegan hot dog)

  • Durum bar (inexpensive falafel, just substitute the yogurt with hummus if you are vegan)

  • Express pizza (can order a vegan pizza with vegan cheese and vegan meat Address: Mimersgade 102)

  • Naturbageriet (bakery that has vegan bread, desserts and pastries

  • Tealicious (really yummy dairy-free bubble tea...a 1 minute walk from DIS)

Grød

  • Located in the Glass Market, another great area to walk through (kind of like Paper Island where there are a wide range of food options including other types of vendors. Grød is probably best known for the "build your own oatmeal" they serve where you can go crazy with toppings

Paper Island

  • Paper Island is a huge indoor room with many delicious vendors with vegan, vegetarian, meat and drink options. This is one of my favorite places to go to eat because you can also sit out by the water with your food. All of the 8 photos below are featuring completely vegan dishes.
